Name/Title: Matthew Garrett, SEO Strategist
Home office: Atlanta, GA
Family and pets: I have two adopted cats, and will be getting a third soon.
Start date at Thrive: July 23, 2018
How did you get started with SEO?
I graduated from college with a degree in Internet Marketing and started working at an agency for medical companies, like hospitals and doctor’s offices. I had a lot of DIY experience and learned a lot through additional courses and certifications, and had a background in IT before my SEO experience.
What do you love about working for Thrive so far?
Thrive has provided an environment where specialists have the tools to create, execute, and learn from their strategies. They make sure that each strategist is allowed to thrive (pardon my pun) and make SEO strategies work for a wide variety of clients. It’s great.
When you’re not at work, how do you spend your time?
I do a ton of photography for Atlanta’s local music scene and I attend a lot of concerts. I usually go to shows about 6-10 times a month.
If you could turn anything into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance of winning a gold medal for?
I don’t know if there’s anyone specific trait I can do better than someone else might be able to, but I do have a special knack for setting up jury-rigged solutions for anything.
What would be your karaoke go-to song and what setting would we likely find you singing it in?
This Is Gospel by Panic at the Disco. Hands down.
If you could be any character from any book or movie, who would you be?
I’d be Captain Holt from Brooklyn 99. I absolutely idolize his ability to be unphased and objective 100% of the time.
Where did you grow up and what is special about that place?
I grew up in upstate NY, and we have a bunch of bizarre dishes you can’t find anywhere else. Look up “garbage plates” and “chicken riggies”. They’re immaculate.
If you were in a room with three billionaires, what would you ask them and why?
I’d ask them what they’re doing to help alleviate child hunger, global poverty, and what they’re doing to help improve literacy and housing rates in our most impoverished communities.
If you could invite three people to dinner (dead or alive), who would be at the table and why?
1. Eric Andre, hysterical and chaotic
2. MLK Jr., iconic and thought-provoking
3. Ida Braiman did a report on her in college and think her story is incredibly compelling.
